The Village of Corolla

Your Corolla, NC Vacation Guide

Less than 30 years have passed since Corolla began transforming itself from a small North Carolina village into the vibrant community youll find today. Despite Corollas incredible growth and nouveau couture, the area has maintained the natural and historical identity that has attracted visitors throughout the centuries. Beyond the fabulous shopping, exquisite dining and variety of activities offered, youll discover a local reverence for the natural splendor that makes the Outer Banks so unique.

Corolla beaches, far removed from the bustle and flair of the modern age, are much beloved for their timeless serenity. Greet the morning sunrise (or sleep in for a change!) and spend the day relaxing on the cool, spacious sands, or plan an invigorating afternoon of fun in nearby Currituck Heritage Park. The park is home to some of Corollas most popular tourist destinations including the Currituck Beach Lighthouse, the Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education, and the Whalehead Club, an incredible 21,000-square-foot-home that has been restored and preserved for public tours. For some excitement on the Atlantic, rent a jet ski or windsurf board for an afternoon of cutting through the famous Outer Banks waves. Quieter Corolla water activities include sound-side kayaking and sailing along the shore.

For an all-day shopping bonanza, be sure to check out the historic area of Corolla Village where youll find an incredible variety of locally owned shops and restaurants. A more inclusive shopping, dining and entertainment destination may be found at TimBuck II Shopping Village where over 60 vendors and restaurants overlook the Currituck Sound. No visit to Corolla would be complete without feasting on the freshest seafood. Dig into succulent crab cakes or platters of steamed shrimp at one of Corollas locally owned restaurants. Other coastal delights, like juicy Black Angus prime rib, perfectly grilled burgers and homemade pasta dishes, are all on the menu!

WOf course, no trip to the Outer Banks would be complete without hanging out (at a safe distance) with the famous wild horses. North of Corolla, these herds of untamed horses are believed to be descendants of Spanish mustangs brought overseas hundreds of years ago. As these horses are contained in a sanctuary located in the northernmost beach area of Currituck, the best way to see these magnificent animals is to take a guided vehicle tour led by a knowledgeable guide. Be sure to stop by the Wild Horse Museum and Mustang Store to learn more about these incredible animals and pick up a souvenir of your experience.
